Washington Ave, Part I

I’m planning to do a more substantive blog post about Washington Avenue in the future. I received 257 pages of e-mails from the City in response to my RTKL request for emails to and from Mayor Kenney’s office, OTIS, Councilman Johnson, and Councilman Squilla about the Washington Ave repaving project, but there are a ton of redactions which I am challenging. I submitted this request in February, had mediation with the City about this last week, and even if I win at the OOR in a few weeks the City could appeal it to the Court of Common Pleas. (They probably don’t realize that one time I did a RTKL request and litigated an appeal, for no money, dragged out for almost a year, just to win an argument with my now husband. I can deal with the lengthy process.)

Apparently City Council just decided they’re not going to do anything about fixing half of a terribly dangerous road. Which is a shame because, as this letter I got in my request shows, the city knows how it is unsafe it is and how their plan announced in 2020 was good:
